Wanda Sykes Quits ‘Roseanne’ After Racially Charged Twitter Reply by the Show’s Star

After Roseanne Barr sent out a tweet saying that former president Barack Obama’s aide Valerie Jarrett is a mix of “muslim brotherhood & planet of the apes had a baby,” she has apologized. However, the fact remains that she insulted a woman by using an ethnic group in a derogatory way, and used an animal that racists use to describe black people. The tweet has since been deleted, but is still available due to social networks (see below).

After the tweet caught traction and made headlines, one of the co-producers and writers of the show, comedy icon Wanda Sykes, quit the show via twitter. Sykes, along with comedian and co-producer Whitney Cummings, who ere both important in the revival of the show, will not be returning for season two.

Barr has since apologized for the tweet: “I apologize to Valerie Jarrett and to all Americans. I am truly sorry for making a bad joke about her politics and her looks. I should have known better. Forgive me – my joke was in bad taste.”

The apology does not take away from what Barr stated, and people are still calling on ABC to do something and take a stand, the same way they did when they decided not to air an episode of “Black-ish” last season because it dealt with kneeling and the national anthem.
