Orioles’ center fielder Adam Jones is doing big things for the culture and history of African-Americans in sports, this time in particular, Baseball. He will be making a $20,000 contribution to the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum in Kansas City while visiting the museum this Saturday afternoon(today, May, 13th, 2017).

“It’s about the game of baseball, about the Negro Leagues side of it, their point of view — the things that they didn’t have as much as everybody else, the things that they didn’t care about as much as everybody else,” Jones said before Friday’s game(May 12th, 2017). “Just the sheer game of baseball. You walk through those doors, such a love for baseball that it’s contagious.”

Jones plans to visit the museum and meet with Kendrick on Saturday before the second game of a three-game series against the Royals at Kauffman Stadium. He will officially deliver his donation while taking another tour.As part of his donation, Jones will also provide free admission to the museum to children from Operation Breakthrough, a Kansas City-area nonprofit that offers daycare for children up to age 5 as well as before-school, after-school and summer activities for children ages 5 to 13.

The donation comes almost two weeks after Jones was the target of verbal abuse during a road game at Boston’s Fenway Park on May 1. Jones told reporters in Boston that at least one fan yelled a racial slur during the game.

“A disrespectful fan threw a bag of peanuts at me,’’ Jones said, according to USA Today. “I was called the N-word a handful of times tonight. Thanks. Pretty awesome.’’

Jones, 31, is in his 12th major-league season and his 10th in Baltimore. He has appeared in five All-Star Games and won three Gold Gloves.
