Rising artist Samara Joy, 23, is getting recognition for her work as she won Best New Artist at the 2023 Grammys.

Joy, a Bronx native, beat out Anitta, Omar Apollo, DOMi & JD Beck, Muni Long, Latto, Måneskin, Tobe Nwigwe, Molly Tuttle, and Wet Legin in the same category.

She was on the verge of tears while accepting her reward.

Joy also won Best Jazz Vocal Album for “Linger Awhile.”

Joy reportedly cited Beyonce and Lizzo as some of her biggest inspirations in the Grammys press room.
