Sylenna Johnson is a Grammy-Nominated singer and tv personality, an author, a fitness enthusiast, and more. But overall, she’s a hustler and entrepreneur. Although her television career is booming, she’s still following her heart with music.
New Record Deal:
On to a new chapter in her life, Johnson has has signed a deal with Entertainment One (Eone) Nashville. This means we can expect her 10th studio album, Woman, in the fall. While many recall hearing Johnson’s powerful voice on Kanye West’s Grammy nominated, top 10 Billboard hit “All Falls Down,” it was the breakout 2002 single “Guess What?” that caught my attention.
“I am so excited that the ‘Woman’ album has found a new home with Entertainment One,” Johnson states. “Thank you to Gina Miller for believing in me and Entertainment One for helping me bring this project to life. Galatians 6:9 says, ‘Do not grow weary in well doing, for in due season you shall reap what you sow, if you faint not.’ I thank God for this season. The season of the Woman.”
Johnson’s Career Outside of Music:
Outside of music, Johnson made her way into the homes on millions on reality television, and now as a talk show host. She appeared on TV One’s R&B Divas: Atlanta, WE TV’s Marriage Boot Camp: Reality Stars, and has been co-hosing live TV One daytime daily talk show Sister Circle since 2017. She has also launched, SheLean Health & Fitness, which helps women in the area of health, nutrition and fitness. SheLean Nutrition, Health, and Fitness is an online company created to cater to women of various demographics.
In a career spending almost 2 decades professionally, Johnson has been able to maintain her core fans, and gather more throughout the years. Staying true to herself, and the music. Johnson has been vocal over the years, and the title track, “Woman,”should come as no surprise. To how she carries herself throughout the video, to the lyrics.
Wearing all black, in the style of the Black Panthers, Johnson is surrounded by other strong Black women. As the leader of the movement in her video, Johnson’s lyrics are gut wrenching and ring true to the culture. An anthem for women, and the cultural story of Black women.
“If you have been following Syleena for any period of time,” Entertainment One’s Gina Miller, VP & GM, Urban Inspirational Music begins. “You’ll notice that by the title alone, the ‘Woman’ album moves away from ‘chapter’ being included in its formal album title, although this moment still represents one. It is a new chapter for us, and in Syleena’s career, but the music does not move away from the core of what Syleena has always included in her work: raw heart and stories that embody the woman.”
Miller continues, “I am looking forward to building together as women. I am excited about being able to frame and shape narrative related to what you hear and see, because of our shared culture and experiences as black women. That said, women and men are going to appreciate the music, the messages, the authenticity and the freedom this new album offers!”
