#NewMusic, THE BLK LT$ Pays Homage With “That Janet Joint”

It takes a lot for an emerging artist to cover a song from a prominent artist and make it her own. However, “That Janet Joint” by THE BLK LT$ (pronounced The Black Lotus) did a really good and authentic job.

Covering Janet Jackson’s “That’s The Way Love Goes” as her first single from the forthcoming Joints: The Smoke Sessions project shows that she’s not afraid to take risks. It’s Janet, Miss Jackson if you’re nasty. LT$’s song feels like homage, and shows artistry at work. LT$’s Joints: The Smoke Sessions will feature reimagined classic R&B joints that ride the wave of Hip Hop and R&B. It will be released globally later this summer.

This song is one of my all-time favorites from Janet Jackson,” says The BLK LT$. “So when we started working on at I really didn’t know if I had the guts to do it. Completing the song with Frankie was great.

“That’s The Way Love Goes” was the lead single from Jackson’s fifth studio album, janet, and was written and produced by Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis. The song ended becoming one of Jackson’s many #1 hits.

“That Janet Joint” manages to take a classic, spin it to make it a little more modern, and still keep the integrity. The new song was produced by Grammy award winning Frank “Nitty” Pimental.

Working with The BLK LT$ brings back the culture of R&B,” says Pimental. “Our intention was to bring the song to a new audience and keep the essence of what the original track embodied, and hopefully, we did that.”

THE BLK LT$ has collaborated with many artists, including DrakeDMX, & Future. She has also studied under fellow Toronto Grammy award-winning producers Matthew “Boi 1Da” Samuels and Noah “40” Shebib_.
