Usher Talks Las Vegas Residency, Cherries and Almost Being Cast in ‘Dreamgirls’ on ‘The Jennifer Hudson Show’

R&B superstar Usher skated down the tunnel and graced The Jennifer Hudson Show for a candid and captivating conversation where he opened up about everything from his iconic Las Vegas residency, the pressure of performing at the Super Bowl halftime show, fatherhood and the infamous cherry act at his latest tour.

Usher revealed the cherry act started with strawberries, but cherries ended up winning.

“Cherries were something I felt was fun,” Usher said. “It’s just fun, activation. That’s what R&B is all about. Being connected and making people feel something fun. I don’t mean to break up people’s houses.”

In a fun and unexpected twist, Usher provided The Jennifer Hudson Show with its own cherry-feeding moment with fans.

In the engaging conversation, Jennifer Hudson delved deep into Usher’s high-energy performances, his meticulous preparations behind them and the pressures to maintain who has been for decades as a performer.

The conversation took a reflective turn as Usher revealed why he chose to skip this year’s Grammys.

“With everything that happened with the wildfires here in Los Angeles, it really wasn’t a celebratory moment for me” Usher said regarding skipping the Grammys this year, despite his album being nominated. “It’s so hard to look outside, then go inside and celebrate. It’s hard too. You work really hard for that moment and it’s no disrespect to the academy.”

Usher also confessed that he was almost in the 2006 hit film, ‘Dreamgirls.’ Usher said he tried but he was on tour at the time and his schedule didn’t permit, but was proud of Hudson’s history with the film and what she has become.

The Southern University and A&M College Marching Band from Baton Rouge, LA, delivered an incredible performance on stage and the band director announced they’re set to perform at the Super Bowl pregame show.
