Today, January 23rd, 2017, all 6 New Edition members received their very own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. This comes the day before they get their proper recognition with their upcoming television movie on BET which airs January 24th, 25th, and 26th, at 9pm.
Group members Ralph Tresvant, Ricky Bell, Michael Bivins, Ronnie DeVoe and Johnny Gill, as well as ex, but original member Bobby Brown, are expected to show up and receive the Walk of Fame’s 2,600th star.
Veteran music hit maker Jimmy Jam, who has produced many of New Edition’s biggest hits, including “Can You Stand the Rain” and “If It Isn’t Love,” spoke at the ceremony as well as BET’s President of Original Programming, Stephen Hill.
The Walk of Fame event comes before the premiere of BET’s three-part miniseries The New Edition Story, which details the group’s rise from Boston teenagers to chart-topping R&B superstars. The star will be unveiled at 7080 Hollywood Blvd. — near the corner of Hollywood and La Brea Avenue.
Since New Edition was formed in 1978, the members have released eight multi-platinum albums and scored more than a dozen No. 1 songs. Their music has inspired artists and fans alike, and they were a prominent part of R&B in the 80’s.
