Just a look at some of the songs that used to bop, were number one hits, or song I feel were just underrated. This Thursday’s songs were released from 2002-2012.

Solange – I Decided (2008)

“I Decided” was written and composed by both Solange, and Pharrell Williams for her second studio album “Sol-Angel and the Hadley St. Dreams.” The song samples hand-claps of the 1964 recording “Where Did Our Love Go,” which was performed by The Supremes, and is also based on the melody of “(Love Is Like a) Heat Wave” by Martha and the Vandellas. If you didn’t know, Solange has been giving us classics and collecting inspiration from the greats.

Melanie Fiona – It Kills Me (2009)

“It Kills Me” spent nine weeks at number 1 on the US Billboard R&B singles chart, and peaked at number 43 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. This also earned Fiona’s first Grammy nomination, in the category of “Best Female R&B Vocal Performance.” The song samples “(Hey There) Lonely Girl” by The Softones.

Bobby Valentino – Tell Me (2005)

Bobby Valentino’s “Tell Me” was released in  August 2005 as the second single from his debut album “Bobby Valentino,” following “Slow Down.” “Tell Me,” peaked at number 51 on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart, and number 13 on Billboard’s Hot R&B/Hip-Hop chart.

Elle Varner – Refill (2012)

“Refill” is the second single from Varner’s debut studio album, “Perfectly Imperfect” (2012). A snippet of the song was included on her mixtape Conversational Lush (2012). The song received a nomination for “Best R&B Song” at the 55th Grammy Awards.

P. Diddy – I Need A Girl Part 2 (Feat. Ginuwine, Loon, Tammy Ruggeri, and Mario Winans) [2002]

“I Need a Girl (Part Two)” was released in 2002, featuring wGinuwine, Loon, Mario Winans and Tammy Ruggeri from the album “We Invented the Remix.” It is the second part of the single “I Need a Girl (Part One).” Diddy achieved the rare occurrence of having both parts of the song become major hits. “Part Two” peaked at #4 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 and #2 on the BillboardHot Rap Tracks chart.
