The Roots Are Developing Two Children’s Shows For Amazon

The legendary Roots crew and Amazon are teaming up to deliver both an animated show and a live-action show for children.

Deadline  reports that the hip-hop group’s production company, Passyunk Productions, will be bringing “South Street Sounds” to the streaming platform with Amazon. The animated series will follow three friends named Zora, Nick and Tyson, who “pride themselves on playing gigs for any occasion” with their band “South Street,” which was formed in “the most musical of neighborhoods.”

“As we venture into the world that is film and television production, we couldn’t think of a better partner than Amazon to help us develop these first two children’s projects,” Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson said.

Member Tarik Trottersaid the following, “Our love for music started as young kids, and we hope to inspire a generation of future artists, musicians and music fans through the stories we tell and the music they hear on these shows.”

Not many details have been released about the live-action show and “South Street Sounds” is only the working title of the animated show. It will be written by Becky Friedman, featuring music by The Roots.

“Our love for music started as young kids, and we hope to inspire a generation of future artists, musicians and music fans through the stories we tell and the music they hear on these shows,” said Black Thought.
