At 2:56 p.m. on Sept. 25, Rihanna shook social media with the announcement she would be the 2023 halftime act at the State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona, on Feb. 12.
Rihanna released her first album, Music of the Sun, in 2005 and has risen as a household name with 14 number one singles under her name.
“We couldn’t think of a more appropriate partner for the world’s most-watched musical performance,” NFL SVP of Partner Strategy Nana-Yaw Asamoah said last week in a statement.
Last year, Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Mary J. Blige, Kendrick Lamar, 50 Cent and Anderson .Paak performed at Super Bowl LVI during the half-time show.
The Apple Music Super Bowl Halftime Show telecast will be produced by DPS with Roc Nation and Jesse Collins serving as executive producers, and Hamish Hamilton serving as director. Roc Nation is also serving as the strategic entertainment advisors of the live performance.
“Rihanna is a generational talent, a woman of humble beginnings who has surpassed expectations at every turn,” Jay-Z said in a statement. “A person born on the small island of Barbados who became one of the most prominent artists ever. Self-made in business and entertainment.”
