Morgan State University Receives $40 Million from Mackenzie Scott

Morgan State University announced they have received $40 million from Mackenzie Scott, philanthropist and Jeff Bezos’ ex wife. “The generous and transformative gift is the largest single private donation in Morgan’s history and the second largest gift to any public Maryland university,” reads the news release.

This isn’t Scott’s first donation to an HBCU. She previously donated millions to Howard University, Hampton University, Xavier University of Louisiana, Morehouse College, Spelman College and Tuskegee University.

President David Wilson, president of Morgan State University, called the donation “monumental” in the news release. He continued to thank Scott “for her due diligence and acknowledgement of the substantive value Morgan offers to so many throughout this nation and around the world, and entrusting that we will ensure the enduring impact of her generosity is truly transformational for many years to come.”
