Rapper Meek Mill spoke to Vogue about his current state since being released from prison, also revealing that a new album will be coming before the year is up.
Although the new album has no title, the full album is supposed to drop on November 30th, tackling his experiences with “the issues of social justice,” which he goes into detail throughout the interview.
“It’s a dark shadow over the top of your head on a daily basis,” Meek said regarding his probation. The rapper was released earlier this year in April, serving more than four months of a two to four year-sentence for a probation violation. Meek continues to discuss the issues with prison and how it changes people, he explains how something has changed after this stint in jail. He says he believes he suffers from PTSD, although admits he hasn’t been to therapy.
“Definitely after this last sentence, I felt different when I came home from prison,” he says of his experiences behind bars. Meek had to spend 23 hours a day in solitary confinement, due to his status of celebrity, regardless of his request. “I used to call my lawyer to call me, on like official visits, just so I could get out of the cell,” he continues. “I couldn’t go to my grandma’s funeral, and see my grandma for the last time, because of not committing a crime. That’s trauma, basically.”
