Essence Magazine has been holding its festival for decades, and it’s a moment of Black girl magic, our history, our culture, impact, and more. The 2020 music lineup has just been announced, and it’s beautiful.
Hosted by Loni Love, and with music by D-Nice, this year’s lineup is already sparking love and attention. Bruno Mars will headline the weekend, it’s his first time headling the event, alongside entertainment icon, Janet Jackson. Jackson performed as a headliner in 2018. Not only did she kill it, but she performed right after the passing if her father.
Legend and icon Patti LaBelle will also take the MainStage with other performers like Ari Lennox, Janelle Monae, Ari Lennox, Janelle Monáe, Raphael Saadiq, Summer Walker and Swizz Beatz, plus an all-star Reggae x Afrobeats curation led by Estelle and featuring Afro B, Chronixx, Elephant Man, Kranium, Max Glazer,Maxi Priest and Shenseea.
If you’ve been to Essence Festival, then you know to expect the unexpected. You never know who will bring out who, and when. Other performers on the side Superlounges include Tamia, Jax Ross, Gold Link, Jidenna, Doug E. Fresh, and more.
