Created by Lee Daniels and Danny Strong, Empire has garnered millions of viewers every season, but all things must come to an end, and it appears that the hit show will be over next year.
After the legal troubles following Jussie Smollett, the future of Empire was hanging in the balance. Now, while there has been no connection with Smollett, and the ending of the show from the executives, the ending of the show was announced a week and some change following its fifth season finale.
Today, during Fox’s pre-upfront, it was announced that the “groundbreaking cultural phenomenon” will be canceled following Season 6 next year. “We are turning the final season into a large TV event — we are trying to go out guns a-blazing,” Charlie Collier said according to Deadline. “You allow fans to lean in and have the ending they deserve.”
Not only is Empire coming to an end, Star on Fox has also been cancelled after season 3, and it was left on a huge cliffhanger. None of the Empire actors have released a statement regarding the cancellation.
