Diddy created the iconic Sean John brand in 1998, and it was a staple in the culture much throughout the 2000s and 2010s. He sold a 90% stake of the Sean John brand in 2016 to Global Brands.
“Seeing how streetwear has evolved to rewrite the rules of fashion and impact culture across categories, I’m ready to reclaim ownership of the brand, build a team of visionary designers and global partners to write the next chapter of Sean John’s legacy,” Diddy said in a statement to Billboard.
Diddy won the bidding war for the brand with a reported total of $7.55 million.
The mogul also sued the Global Brand company earlier this year, twice. The latest was when the brand tried to trademark Diddy’s well-known “Vote or Die” phrase for clothing purposes.
According to CompleteMusicUpdates, Diddy believed that using the phrase with the brand that he then didn’t own, would create confusion.
