AFRAM 2023 is underway in Baltimore with The Isley Brothers, Ty Dolla $ign, Tamar Braxton and more performing as the 46th celebration takes place on Juneteenth weekend at Druid Hill Park.
AFRAM this year will have many different celebrations, including the first Baltimore Club Music Day, which takes place June 17 and celebrates 32 years of the genre.
AFRAM also plans to honor Hip-Hop as 2023 marks the genre’s 50th anniversary. More information regarding that will follow shortly.
The yearly festival will run from noon to 8 p.m.
The festival is more than just entertainment; it’s a community event as well.
Mayor Brandon Scott called AFRAM “a big Black Baltimore family reunion” in the past, which is aided by the fact it’s one of the biggest African American festivals on the East Coast.
AFRAM will also provide ten $1,000 grants to nonprofit and community organizations that host existing and established Juneteenth events, which is a continuation of what they’ve done in the past.
