TMZ reported that the reasoning for 21 Savage being pulled over my police is because he was “driving recklessly and on a path to slam into a fully-marked cop car.” Now, while 21 was not the only person in the car, the police report obtained by TMZ says when the police caught up to Savage after trying to escape on another street, they required him to toss his keys out the window. They are alleging that along with his keys, he tossed out an unknown substance. Along with that, a loaded gun was found in the car he was driving.

Following the new, 21 Savage’s lawyers went on the defense to clear their client, denying that the gun, and the car, are his.

“ICE has confirmed he was targeted for immigration enforcement and nothing more. He was never arrested by the police, and some other individual’s firearm and vehicle is not our concern here.” – Alex Spiro, Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan

Brian Steel from The Steel Law Firm, P.C. states the following: “That was not his car and the gun retrieved is not his. No one will be falsely accusing my client. 21 Savage has done absolutely nothing wrong.”

As a result of what’s happening with the young rapper, the #Free21Savage Coalition began.

The #Free21Savage Coalition — a consortium of activists convened by Black Lives Matter Global Network (BLM), and including Define American, The UndocuBlack Network, Black Alliance for Just Immigration (BAJI), and Color of Change, along with FYI Brand Group, The Soze Agency, and Roc Nation — is taking a 360-degree approach to raising awareness and putting pressure on Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

“It’s unfortunate but we know ICE and police departments lie, especially as they work together to criminalize Black folks, detain immigrant communities and separate families. They need to end this charade and release She’yaa, aka 21 Savage now. ”

– Jonathan Jayes-Green, The UndocuBlack Network

21 Savage’s case is one example of the larger issues faced by millions of immigrants in America. People try to do the right thing and “get in line” when — in reality — there is no direct line to citizenship. That’s something that must be fixed.
